During a recent trip to the USA I went to New York and became involved with a new global voice for artists with "challenges". We use the term challenges because sadly quite often the word disability gets misinterpreted as inability.
At this meeting, we created a board of directors, being: Drum guru, Dom Famularo, drummer from Connecticut - David Segal, drummer from Tennessee Mike Mignogna and myself, Andrew Hewitt all the way from Sydney Australia.
As 3 of us are drummers with challenges, we discussed the frustrations of getting real opportunties, real gigs... so Can-Do Musos was born. We are establishing an online presence at the moment and are looking at ways to set up as an organisation so we are able to seek funding and put together real opportunities for artists listed on our website all over the world.
So far, the website has attracted over 40 musicians from Australia, Brazil, Canada, UK, USA and Venezuela. This number is growing all the time.
The website is http://www.candomusos.com
If anyone has a disability and is very passionate about playing music, we would love to hear from you. All you need is a bio (as inspirational as you can make it), a hires photo, any web links or youtube videos you want to share.
We also have our own newsletter which gets produced bi-monthly which features musicians and bands listed on the website http://www.candomusos.com/newsletter/can-do-musical-notes-sep2013.pdf
We are also on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Can-Do-Musos/457807147633068
Good on you mate, I remember having a couple of email conversations with you a couple of years ago. Seems like everything is going well mate. Let me know how muso2muso can help this great project. I am sure we can all relate to it.
